The proposed Interstate 3 would have run from Savannah via Augusta to Knoxville, cutting through the mountains of Northeast Georgia, Western North Carolina, and Eastern Tennessee, and threatening four National Forests and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Five potential routes were studied. The study team concluded that there is no established “purpose and need” for this project and recommended that further effort be terminated. What you did.
